From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

Donald Trump Jr has suggested Joe Biden wears a diaper and told supports to “make liberals cry again” in his final bid for votes to re-elect his father.

The president’s oldest son unleashed an Election Day Twitter spree on Tuesday to drum-up last-minute support for the president, with a mix of praise for Mr Trump and digs at his Democratic rival Mr Biden.

In one tweet, Mr Trump Jr took a dig at the Democrat’s age, retweeting a post that read: “Biden's adult diaper has never filled up faster” alongside a video of Mr Biden becoming startled when tapped on the shoulder.

Mr Trump Jr has tweeted and retweeted more than 30 times and counting in total since midnight on his personal account, which has 5.9 million followers, in an attempt to rally final levels of support for his father.

“Vote like your freedoms, your livelihood, and our future depends on it … Because they do!,” he wrote in one post.

The businessman also retweeted reports of a man claiming to be a Republican poll monitor purportedly being “wrongfully prevented” from entering a polling station.

Workers at the polling station can be heard saying the man was in the wrong place as he had not been assigned to their ward and therefore had no reason to be permitted entry.

Mr Trump Jr. also promoted messages from those voting for Mr Trump, sharing a video with the hashtag “#AmishForTrump” and an article titled: “African-American pastor explains why Black people should vote for Trump”.

Mr Trump Jr. also attacked NBC News in one tweet posting: “You’re joking right??? Did you give the The Onion your feed today? You guys are a disgrace,” in response to an article published by the broadcaster.

In a closing statement to supporters at a Trump rally in Kenosha, Wisconsin on Monday, Mr Trump Jr urged audience members to “get out and bring your friends to vote tomorrow.”

“And when we do, we can not only keep making America great again, but we can make liberals cry again," he said.

More than 100 million Americans had already cast their ballots ahead of Election Day according to the US Elections Project, a database compiled by Michael McDonald, a professor at the University of Florida.

With election day unfolding, RealClear Politics National polling average has Joe Biden leading Mr Trump by 7.2 percentage points.

The president was  joined on the last day of his campaign by a number of his family members including Mr Trump Jr, Eric Trump, Tiffany Trump, Ivanka Trump, and her husband Jared Kushner, reports said.

Mr Trump Jr has been one of the most active campaigners for his father’s re-election and has thrown himself into politics to assist his father in the run up to 3 November.
