Rudy Giuliani was caught up in chaotic scenes as protesters clashed with Proud Boys and supporters of the president at a Jews for Trump rally in New York City.

Mr Trump’s personal lawyer was caught on camera being verbally abused by protesters who shouted that he was the “worst mayor in the history of New York.”

Mr Giuliani was confronted outside Trump Tower as he sat in the passenger seat of a car talking to police officers and gave his abusers a thumbs up as they waved money at him.

Anti-fascist protesters took to the streets of Manhattan on Sunday to counter the pro-Trump rally that was taking place in the city.

Videos on social media showed anti-Trumpers pulling flags off cars and red paint was thrown on several vehicles.

Police were seen making a string of arrests as fighting broke out between the groups as they arrived in the city’s famed Times Square.

One woman was reportedly arrested for shooting pepper spray at the rally’s convoy of vehicles.

In Brooklyn rocks and eggs were thrown from an overpass as the convoy made its way towards Manhattan.

The Jews for Trump rally was also attended by activist Heshy Tischler, who previously coordinated protests against the city’s lockdowns in Orthodox Jewish neighbourhoods.

Earlier this month Mr Tischler was arrested amid accusations he incited a mob to attack a Jewish journalist.

Mr Trump enjoys large support in the orthodox community, with a poll by Ami Magazine finding that 83 per cent of Orthodox voters plan on voting for the president compared to just 13 per cent for Joe Biden.

New York City brought in tougher lockdown measures on Orthodox neighbourhoods in Brooklyn and other areas after Covid-19 cases spiked.

During the protests on Sunday one pro-Trump supporter was seen with a bloody mouth after being punched, according to witnesses on social media.

More than 1,000 vehicles eventually converged on Brooklyn’s Marine Park for a Make America Great Again rally.

It has been an eventful week for Mr Giuliani who hit the headlines for his participation in the new Borat movie.

In it he was caught in a compromising position with a young woman posing as a TV reporter as part of a prank for the movie. He angrily denied he had been doing anything untoward.
