Your support makes all the difference.As polls began to close on Tuesday, White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany posted a tweet with no context claiming that “GOD IS IN CONTROL!!”
She even pinned the tweet to the top of her account.
Twitter users were quick to remind her that, in fact, voters are in charge in the US election — assuming that’s what she was tweeting about.
“No, the American people are. Maybe ask God to help us with Covid,” replied one Twitter user.
Others suggested that it would be God’s will if Joe Biden won the election and her boss, Donald Trump, was voted out of office.
Another point raised was that church and state are supposed to be separate in the US.
One tweet simply said: “God didn’t vote", to which a reply came that “Trump told him he couldn’t vote by mail, so he sat this one out."
The unprompted tweet was also met with morality recommendations and career advice.
“Girl bye. God wants nothing to do with doers of iniquity. That’s in the word!” said political commentator Rochelle Ritchie.
Another advised Ms McEnany: “Get your resume ready.”
Earlier in the day, Donald Trump’s press secretary had predicted he would win by a landslide.
As results began to be reported on Tuesday night, Ms McEnany tweeted from her personal account that the Trump campaign’s gains in her home state of Florida amounted to a landslide and the race "should have been called long ago".
In mid-October, the press secretary had her personal Twitter account locked for sharing a news story that reflected negatively on Joe Biden, according to the White House.
Her account was reinstated with the offending tweet removed.
