Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

The Trump campaign blasted out a fundraising email to supporters in the early hours of Wednesday as the president gears up for legal battles over the election result.

The email, sent at 4.20am eastern time, read: “The Democrats will try to STEAL the Election! President Trump needs YOU to step up and DEFEND the results.”

There is zero evidence that the Democrats are trying to steal the election, despite the Trump team’s claims.

The solicitation offered to match contributions by “1000%”. Vice President Mike Pence also sent out his own fundraising email.

Both the Trump and Biden campaigns are gearing up for potential court battles with teams of lawyers and constitutional law experts, as the presidential election result remains on a knife-edge in crucial swing states.

The Biden campaign is also fundraising. “We will win, but only if we protect the election," read a message on the Biden campaign website on Wednesday.

It continued: “Joe Biden will be the next President of the United States- but last night the President threatened to go to court to prevent the proper tabulation of votes. We are standing up the most comprehensive legal effort ever assembled. This work could stretch on for weeks and funding it is more important than ever. Chip in to the Biden Fight Fund.”
