A teenage girl has been faces assault charges after punching a man who was wearing a Donald Trump Halloween costume in the face.

The incident at a fairground in Naples, Florida, on Saturday evening was reportedly filmed by the 14-year-old girl’s friends.

According to the Collier County Sheriff’s Office, the girl went up to the man who was waiting in a queue to go into the fair’s haunted house and struck him in the jaw.

She faces a misdemeanour charge of battery, the sheriff’s office said.

The man said after the girl hit him she laughed and ran back to her place in the queue where she was with about four friends.

According to the Naples Daily News the man then went up to the girl to ask her why she had hit him, and then he found a worker at the fairground and asked them to report the incident to the police.

The sheriff’s deputy then interviewed the girl with her parents.

During the interview a woman identifying herself as a local school worker said the footage of the incident had been posted on Instagram.

The police told the girl’s parents due to the nature of the crime and “that the sole motivation was to strike ‘Trump’,” investigators may follow up with them.

The girl was then made to leave the fairground.
