Donald Trump wasn't kidding when he said was going to play a "VERY fast" round of golf on the weekend.

The president was seen driving a golf cart with the caddie hanging off the back as he played a few holes in Northern Virginia after his rally in New Hampshire was postponed.

NBC White House correspondent Kelly O'Donnell shared the clip on Twitter, saying the brief video was from the president's golf outing at the Trump National Golf Club.

"The course is the only place he gets to drive himself. Secret Service positioned nearby. The caddie holding on in back," she said.

Mr Trump defended his tee times on Sunday after Golf News Net reported that his Saturday game was the 275th time visiting a golf club during his time as president.

Mr Trump said many in business and politics work out endlessly to the point of exhaustion, and that no one complained when Barack Obama played golf.

Mr Obama played an estimated 333 times during his two terms, with a handicap of 23.

"My 'exercise' is playing, almost never during the week, a quick round of golf. Obama played more and much longer rounds, no problem," he tweeted.

"When I play, Fake News CNN, and others, park themselves anywhere they can to get a picture, then scream 'President Trump is playing golf.' Actually, I play VERY fast, get a lot of work done on the golf course, and also get a 'tiny' bit of exercise. Not bad!'"

Mr Trump's exercise was enough for the president to "remain healthy", according the White House's annual check-up that showed he was obese, though not morbidly so.

The report from Dr Sean Conley revealed the president's 6’3” height and 244 pounds weight, giving him a body mass index of 30.5.

According to the CDC, that’s right on the border of “overweight” and “obese”, which starts at a BMI of 30 or higher.
