From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

A man who likes to run shirtless in the rain has become an internet sensation after he was interviewed on a local news station during a segment about the warm weather in Chicago.

In the segment a WGN TV Chicago news reporter stands in the rain wearing a cagoule and his hood pulled up onto his head, while interviewing a topless Ethan Renoe, who has been out running in a pair of shorts in the unseasonably warm December.

“It’s too wet to wear a shirt,” Mr Renoe, 24, tells the reporter, adding: “I love running in the rain”.

So this just happened. Enjoying the weather, are you, "Ethan"?

Mr Renoe then adds: “I’m also single!” while making a phone gesture with his hand.

The 28-second video has since been viewed more than four million times and shared over 31,000 times on Facebook.

Mr Renoe, who lives in Colorado but was staying in Chicago, was interviewed in a shirt by the same reporter the next morning where he told viewers he is a proud Christian.

The day before he travelled back to Colorado Mr Renoe was invited onto a third and final segment on WGN TV, called “Ethan the shirtless wonder is looking for love”. He said had received about 900 Facebook friend requests since the original interview had run.
