Tomi Lahren has been temporarily suspended from her show after revealing she believes women should be able to have abortions.

Lahren, a conservative commentator who is famed for her vitriolic viral rants, has had her nightly talk show Tomi pulled off air on conservative website The Blaze for the week.

The 24-year-old host, an ardent Donald Trump supporter who is a rising star of the right, stoked massive controversy after admitting she supported abortion rights and was pro-choice.

Appearing on The View on Friday, Lahren said it would be hypocritical for her to both support limited government intervention and assert the government is able to decide how women use their bodies.

The right-wing pundit, who has dubbed refugees “rapeugees”, said: "Stay out of my guns, and you can stay out of my body as well”.

Conservative commentators, talk show hosts and Lahren’s right-wing fanbase hounded her for the comments about abortion. Glenn Beck, founder of The Blaze, condemned her position and noted she once referred to abortion doctors as “baby killers”.

Lahren, who has garnered a following of 4.2 million on Facebook, hinted at the fact she had been dropped from the show on Twitter on Monday night. “So I've got some 'me' time tonight. Anything good on TV? #TeamTomi,” she said.

Although no official reason has been given for Lahren's on-air absence this week, on Monday, Leon Wolf, managing editor of the Blaze, told CNN “Tomi’s show will not be in production this week.”

Beck, a former Fox News host who many accuse of aiding Mr Trump’s cause by “mainstreaming a conspiratorial way of thinking”, addressed Lahren’s abortion comments on his radio show on Monday morning.

"I would disagree that you're a hypocrite if you want limited government and yet you want the government to protect life of the unborn. It's very, very clear," Beck said. "But it takes intellectual honesty, and it takes a willingness to actually think these things through and to do more than just read Twitter or Facebook to get your news and your political opinions."

But Beck insisted Lahren's position on abortion would not prevent her from working at the Texas-based multimedia company he launched in 2010.

"I don't hire people who are sycophants or who have my opinion," he said. "I try to hire people who have a different opinion because I believe in being intellectually rigorous."

Beck said a number of people have called for Lahren, who has arguably become the most visible personality at The Blaze, to be fired from the company but refused to discuss details of her employment.

"That's not for you to call. That's not appropriate to be discussed on the radio. That's in the privacy of the office of The Blaze."

Lahren clarified her stance on abortion after her initial remarks on Friday, telling one critic: "Listen, I am not glorifying abortion. I don't personally advocate for it. I just don't think it's the government's place to dictate”.

The morning after her appearance, she said: "I have moderate, conservative, and libertarian views. I'm human. I will never apologise, to anyone, for being an independent thinker."

The controversial South Dakota native, who is known for her tirades about “so-called feminism”, liberal “crap” and “self-righteous kneelers” like Colin Kaepernick, has rapidly built up an engaged online following and hit a chord with millennials on the right. Lahren’s inflammatory firebrand rhetoric and argumentative style is deliberately controversial and pits itself against political correctness.
