Your support makes all the difference.The father of a 15-year-old girl who killed herself said his daughter was tormented by rumours her ex-boyfriend posted explicit photographs of her online.
Karina Saifer Oliveira from Nova Andradina in southeastern Brazil, was also racially abused by classmates before her death, her father said.
Karina reportedly had a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old boy when she was 14 years old and there was speculation he had shared intimate photographs of her.
Karina's father, Aparecido Oliveira, said his daughter told him the photographs made her feel "trashy".
"I said it didn't have anything to do with her," he told Buzzfeed News.
Brazil legislated against revenge porn in 2014 following the high-profile death of a 17-year-old, who killed herself after a video of her having sex was posted online.
Recording or disclosing intimate images without authorisation is now considered a violation of privacy by improper use under Brazilian law.
Police are reportedly investigating whether the photographs of Karina exist and if they are still circulating online.
The teenager's father, who works as a security guard, said Karina was also sent "hateful" messages from her classmates for more than a year before she died.
The messages bullied her for having afro hair, which Karina regularly straightened.
"She didn't like her hair because people kept criticising her about it," her father said, "that's racism".
After Karina killed herself, the family was further hurt when one of her sisters saw a photograph in of her body posted on a Whatsapp group.
The family have filed a complaint about the leaked image with the Nova Andradina Police Department, which is investigating the death of the teenager.
