From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Kathy Boudin, one of the last of the radical left-wing Weather Underground still behind bars, was unexpectedly granted parole yesterday, 22 years into a sentence for her role in a botched armed robbery in which three men were killed.
The former student leader and outspoken opponent of the Vietnam War, now 60 years old, is expected to be freed from her New York state prison by late September. "She's hysterically happy," Leonard Weinglass, her lawyer, told Associated Press. "What I heard on the phone were screaming and crying."
Boudin has done extensive social work in prison, including developing a support program-me for inmates who, like her, have to see their children grow up from behind bars. However, when she first applied for parole two years ago she was turned down following an energetic campaign by relatives of the victims of her crime. She was denied parole again just three months ago.
Boudin was sentenced to 25 years to life for the 1981 robbery of an armoured car. She and her partner, David Gilbert, were unarmed but their associates opened fire when the raid went wrong and killed two policemen and a security guard. Gilbert, the father of her child Chesa Boudin, is serving a double life sentence and has little hope of ever being freed.
