A burglar in the US was caught after the police found him hiding at the end of a trail of footprints in the snow.

Amarillo police answered a call about a vehicle burglary after a man leaving for work saw someone in his parked car.

Police in the Texan Panhandle say that Collin Thomas Ferguson ran, but then returned to retrieve his mobile phone after he apparently left it in the car, and then fled again.

The officers then followed the suspect’s footprints in the snow and found Mr Ferguson hiding in another parked vehicle.

He faces burglary charges related to three vehicles and a building. Police also recovered marijuana from Mr Ferguson.

Police confirmed that Mr Ferguson was being held on Monday for four counts of burglary and a charge of possession of a controlled substance.
