Police are hunting for an gunman in Oklahoma after he allegedly killed two people and wounded two police officers.

Authorities say they were called to reports of shots being fired in a caravan park near a highway in Wellston, a small town near the capital Oklahoma City, on Sunday evening at approximately 6:30pm (00:30am UK time).

When officers arrived at the scene the suspect, Michael Vance, allegedly began firing an AK-47 at officers.

The two other victims, believed to be family members of Vance, were found dead at the scene.

One officer was shot in the foot, another was shot in both legs. Both officers' injuries are believed to be non-life threatening, local news channel Koco reported.

The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office said Vance then carjacked a woman living in the caravan park and fled the scene.

The woman was shot at and injured but did not require hospital treatment.

Vance's unnamed accomplice was taken into custody but he remains at large. It is believed he was struck by bullets fired by officers.

Sheriff Charlie Dougherty told KFOR: "He recently got out of my jail. He was accused of child sexual assault. We were doing an investigation, we arrested him. That is supposedly what set him off but we don`t know that for sure yet".

A statement released on the force's Facebook page said: "At approximately 6:30 this evening, two Wellston police officers were shot while responding to a shots fired call in the Wellston area. The injuries were fortunately not life-threatening.

"The suspects fled the scene in a Lincoln Towncar, white in color with a blue top.

"One subject is currently in custody, the following subject, Michael Vance, is still at large."
