A 22-year-old New York woman miraculously avoided being crushed by the three subway trains after drunkenly falling onto tracks in Times Square.

Mary Downey, an Irish woman from Woodlawn in the Bronx, fell onto the tracks at the W. 49th Street station in Manhattan at around 6 am local time on Sunday.

Two train operators ran over her body without noticing she was on the tracks.

A third driver saw Downey's hand waving at the last moment but was unable to stop before his vehicle had partially passed over her.

Officials suggested that Downey must have rolled to a position in between the rails as the trains passed over her. According to the New York Post, Downey fell onto the tracks as the first train, a northbound N train was approaching.

She was then unable to get herself off the rails but managed to position her body in such a way so that at least one of the trains barreled over her.

She also appeared to have rolled into the space between the platform and the tracks, local sources said.

Paramedics were called to the scene of the incident and treated Downey, who was conscious throughout the ordeal, for an injured shoulder.
