A mother has been accused of stabbing her 11-year-old daughter multiple times to “prevent her from having sex", police said.

Rosa Alcides Rivera arrived at an Orlando hospital seeking help for her daughter, but that she had already died from the multiple stab wounds, according to sheriff’s investigators in Florida.

The 28-year-old pulled a knife on hospital workers and was then arrested, they added.

Ms Rivera told police that she had killed her daughter to “prevent her form having sex” with men.

She has been charged with first-degree murder.

Officials said that the murder was sparked by the belief that the child was having sex with the mother’s boyfriend.

The mother took her daughter to a home and accused the boyfriend of having sex with the child, they added.

While the child denied the charge, the mother said she thought she was having sex because she “smiled different”, CBS News reported.
