Your support makes all the difference.Locals in the city of Tlaltenango, Mexico, discovered a newborn baby boy abandoned inside a pizza box on a sidewalk.
The infants, thought to be a week old, was found wrapped in blankets between Allende and Zacatecas streets and taken to hospital by Mexico’s Civil Protection Agency for evaluation.
He was accompanied by a note that read: “Take care of my grandson. My daughter died while giving birth and I don’t have [a way] to support him and I hope he has a better life and God forgive me.”
The agency posted a photograph of the note on its Facebook page on 8 October, with the caption: “Life shapes you but it does not prepare you for situations like this.”
The note was shared widely on social media. The agency said it received several offers from members of the public wanting to adopt the child, but added: “We are not the appropriate channel.”
Miguel Ángel Varelo Pinedo, mayor of Tlaltenango, pledged to take care of the baby’s expenses and expressed regret over the fact he had been abandoned due to financial reasons in a Facebook post.
He wrote: “I’ll take care of the baby’s spending for as long as it takes. God gives us, to also support the most unprotected. All the more reason this beautiful child is not guilty of anything.
“Rest in peace, your holy mother, and God forgive your grandmother,” he added.
In another post, Mr Pinedo confirmed the baby has been named Ángel Gabriel and was baptised before being handed over to the relevant authorities.
He asked that the state governor, Alejandro Tello, ensure the baby is adopted by a family living in Tlaltenango, and added that he would follow up to see that Ángel is adopted by “exemplary parents”.
