The girlfriend of the Las Vegas gunman has arrived in the US and is being questioned after the killing of 58 people on the Strip.

Marilou Danley, 62, was previously named as a “person of interest” by police despite having been out of the country for more than two weeks before Monday’s massacre. She is not thought to be under arrest.

A law enforcement official said she arrived late on Tuesday night on a flight from Manila to Los Angeles, where FBI agents were waiting for her.

Ms Danley, who has an Australian passport, was said to have been visiting family in the Philippines. American investigators are trying to establish why her partner transferred $100,000 (£75,000) to the country days before he committed mass murder.

She first arrived in the Philippines on 15 September, according to immigration documents there. She departed on 22 September, then returned three days later on a flight from Hong Kong.

Ms Danley has lived in Nevada since 2003, according to local media, and has worked in the casino business.

She was married to her now-ex-husband for 25 years before their divorce in 2015, the Reno Gazette-Journal reported. The paper said that during her divorce, Ms Danley listed as her address a flat owned by Stephen Paddock in Reno, Nevada.

Speaking to KHBS, her former husband's daughters called her a “good and gentle person”. “I know she has to be devastated about what has happened,” said one.

On a now-deleted Facebook profile Ms Danley reportedly called herself “a proud mom and grandma who lives life to the fullest”. The New York Times said she has a daughter who lives in Los Angeles.

Mail Online said she had been married in Australia before moving to the US, where she lived with a man who has since died.

The Vegas killer’s brother, Eric Paddock, called her “a nice lady” who “sends my mum cookies”.

It is claimed the shooter, with whom Ms Danley lived in Mesquite, often berated her in public. Workers at a local branch of Starbucks told the LA Times “it happened a lot”.
