New Orleans man Glen Alveris has been charged with several battery and domestic abuse charges after it was learned that he had shot at a woman walking her dog along the street.
The victim says that she was walking her dog when she began to hear what sounded like a car backfiring. She soon realised that she was under fire, and then felt the sting of a bullet hitting her leg, according to the New Orleans Advocate.
The suspected shooter, Mr Alveris, didn’t have a problem with the victim herself, but was instead trying to prove a point to his girlfriend as they argued about her dancing with another man at a party.
“I am going to show you how crazy I am,” Mr Alveris allegedly said before taking aim at the pedestrian, according to police.
“I will shoot anybody who plays with me,” he said as the victim grabbed for her leg, according to a confession from the girlfriend.
The suspect was able to get away with the shooting until he was stabbed multiple times by the girlfriend 10 days later with a kitchen knife, after yet another fight. The shooting was revealed during questioning, when the girlfriend let police know what had happened.
“He is a severe danger to the community,” Assistant District Attorney Michael Henn said at an initial hearing Tuesday. Mr Alveris was next to him in a wheelchair.
Before the argument, and the shooting, the two were reportedly smoking marijuana and drinking at a nearby party that they had left.
