The child’s mother said she caught Stefan Stewart in bed with the four-year-old boy at around 5am on Sunday morning at their home in San Antonio, Texas, according to police records.
The boy told his mother Mr Stewart was “hurting [him]”, she claims, at which point the 29-year-old is alleged to have blamed the incident on his medication and the Devil, News 4 San Antonio reported.
The woman reportedly offered to pray for him but he said the Devil had already left him.
She then called the suspect’s mother and asked her to call the police. Officers say they have a recorded conversation where the man reportedly confessed to attacking the boy and asked for forgiveness. The boy was later taken to hospital for treatment.
Mr Stewart has since recanted his alleged confession and is currently in custody while police investigate the charges against him, MySanAntonio reported.
An affidavit released by the force said: "The suspect said that he was not 'gay,' and that the only reason his DNA would be on the victim... is because he changed his diaper at an earlier time during the day.
"The victim's mom offered to pray with the suspect (Stewart), but he said the devil had already left him".
