Lady Gaga hosts concert for Hillary Clinton super pac

While the nation’s attention rains down on Philadelphia for the Democratic National Convention, Lady Gaga has managed to bring some of the spotlight across the Delaware River.

The pop star is the main draw for a music concert in Camden, New Jersey, one of the poorest cities in the US.

It will take place hours before Hillary Clinton is due to speak on the final evening of the convention.

Organised by George Norcross and Susan McCue, president of lobby group General Majority PAC and former chief of staff to US senate majority leader Harry Reid, the invite-only event welcomes delegates but excludes the media.

Lady Gaga is an outspoken democrat, and said this week on twitter that she was “choked up with tears of American pride” after watching Michelle Obama’s speech.

Mr Norcross, an insurance executive, is a Democratic super delegate alongside his brother, US representative Donald Norcross.

The brothers both support Ms Clinton.

The “Camden Rising” event will also feature Lenny Kravitz and DJ Jazzy Jeff.

The democratic convention has managed to pull in many big stars, including actors Susan Sarandon, Meryl Streep and Lena Dunham, compared to a relatively lackluster turn-out for the Republican convention with actor Scott Baio, Duck Dynasty’s Willie Robertson and Jon Voight addressing the delegates by video link.

“It's going to be, with the exception of the acceptance speech by Hillary Clinton, the hottest ticket at the convention based on the responses that we've gotten so far,” Mr Norcross said last week.

“I think having it in Camden and entitling it 'Camden Rising' and telling a little of the story of Camden is very helpful for the city, its resurgence and what everyone is doing to try to make it a better place.”

Mr Norcross has worked with Republican governor Chris Christie to redevelop the area through state grants and tax credits.
