Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Justin Bieber and Katy Perry have joined the wave of support for a young boy who described how he was bullied at school in a viral video.
Keaton Jones said through tears that fellow pupils called him “ugly” and threw milk over his clothes in the canteen.
“Why do they bully?” he asked.
“What’s the point of it? Why do they find joy in taking innocent people and find a way to be mean to them?”
The video triggered a massive response. After it was filmed by his mother, Kimberley Jones, and shared by friends, it crossed over to Instagram and has been seen more than 22 million times.
A raft of celebrities and sports stars have tweeted messages of support to Keaton, including Snoop Dogg, Cardi B, Victoria Beckham and Terry Crewes.
“This broke my 💔 today,” wrote Katy Perry. “Please be kind to one another.”
Justin Bieber called the pupil a “legend”.
“The fact that he still has sympathy and compassion for other people when he’s going through it himself is a testament to who he is,” said Bieber.
