From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Conservative group ForAmerica has said potential Republican presidential candidate Jeb Bush is “unelectable” and sent a video denouncing him to about 8 million supporters.

The video shows Mr Bush presenting potential Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton with the National Constitution Centre’s Liberty Medal, an award for public service.

“I want to say thank you to both Secretary Clinton and President Clinton,” Mr Bush said at the ceremony, referring to both Bill and Hillary Clinton. “Thank you for your service to our country. We are united by love of country and public service.”

The ceremony was held on the eve of the first anniversary of the attack on a US diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya in which two US officials were killed. Mrs Clinton was secretary of state at the time of the attack.

ForAmerica claims that since Mr Bush gave Mrs Clinton an award for her public service, he will not be able to criticise her should the two both run for the presidency in 2016. The end of the group’s video says “Jeb Bush: Unelectable.”

Neither Mr Bush nor Mrs Clinton have confirmed they will run, though both are among the top potential candidates in their respective parties.

“As it stands, Jeb has absolutely no credibility to criticize her because he has already anointed her as a great public servant; and he inexplicably did so almost a year to the day of the Benghazi massacre,” ForAmerica Chairman Brent Bozell said in a statement. “He will lose, and the public will have to suffer at least another four years of Obama’s policies – and anything worse she has in store for America.”
