Mike Tyson wants his next knockout to be on Broadway. The former boxer will team up with the film director Spike Lee to bring his show Mike Tyson: Undisputed Truth to New York for six nights in July and August.

The one-man show – a raw confessional on the highs and lows of the life of the retired heavyweight champion – will mark a Broadway debut for both Tyson and Lee.

"I'm very vulnerable and I'm just telling you who I am and where I'm from and how this happened," said Tyson said at a news conference at the Longacre Theatre, where the show – which ran for a week in Las Vegas in April – will be staged.

Tyson became the youngest world heavyweight champion as a 20-year-old in 1986. His life since then has been marred by accusations of domestic violence, rape and drug use.

"It takes courage to get in the ring," said Lee. "But it takes courage to get on the stage."
