Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Jen Hurd Bohn was on holiday in Paris with her husband, Jeff, two weeks ago, when she snapped a gentleman popping the question to his other-half on top of one of the most-visited monuments in the world.
Mrs Bohn described how she got caught-up in a queue after taking the photos and wasn’t able to reach the happy couple to let them know she had caught their special moment on camera.
Now, she’s launched an appeal on Facebook to track them down so that she can give them the photographs of the romantic proposal as keepsakes.
Writing on Facebook, she says: ‘Saw this guy propose to this girl on the Eiffel Tower Sunday 6/21/15. Wanted to send them the pics but was stuck in line. Help me find them! If that was me I would want these pics’.
The photographs have been shared online over 200,000 times and they show the woman’s ecstatic and emotional reaction as her partner whips out a ring against the stunning Paris backdrop.
