A man dressed as Freddy Krueger allegedly shot five people at a Halloween house party in Texas, according to police.

Around 5am on Sunday morning, a group of men arrived at a Halloween party in San Antonio, before one of the group pulled out a gun from his costume and fired into the crowd.

Officers said the suspect was dressed as the murderous villain from the Nightmare on Elm Street films, and had not been invited to the party.

An altercation broke out when the hosts tried to remove the uninvited guests and four men and a woman were shot.

The suspects fled and three of the victims were taken to University Hospital. The injured woman drove herself to Christus Santa Rosa Hospital, according to My San Antonio.

Police said they were continuing to search for suspects.

There was also violence at a Halloween Party in New York over the weekend, in which two women – 20-year-old Tabitha Cruz and 18-year-old Omani Free – were killed and five were left injured.

The shooting happened at an apartment in the north of the city, as the two victims were preparing to go home. Police said they were investigating.
