The 17-year-old was shot at around 2am on Uvalde Road in Houston, Texas, on Friday morning, J Shannon of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office told KHOU.
At around 2am on Friday, a Harris County resident called 911 and told the authorities that he had been approached by two young men carrying what appeared to be AR-15 rifles, after he arrived at an apartment complex to meet a woman he had met on a dating app.
He said that after they attempted to rob him, he pulled out his own gun and shot one of the teenagers, according to the New York Post.
The man told the authorities that his gun then jammed, so he ran to his car and drove to the nearest petrol station, where he called the police.
When responding officers arrived at the scene, they found the other teenager attempting to give the 17-year-old CPR.
Paramedics arrived at the apartment complex soon after, but the teenager died at the scene.
After inspecting the guns carried by the teenagers, the authorities discovered that they were not real, but instead toy rifles created to look like AR-15s, according to the Post.
The surviving teenager was taken into custody and questioned by police, but KHOU reported that he had so far been uncooperative.
The man who allegedly shot the other teenager is also being questioned by Harris County officers.
The authorities have not yet released the names of the people involved, or any possible charges.
