A hospital in Connecticut is evaluating a patient displaying “Ebola-like symptoms", US health officials have confirmed.

The patient was admitted to the Yale-New Haven Hospital on Wednesday evening for evaluation and placed in isolation, a spokesperson for the hospital said.

“We have not confirmed or ruled-out any diagnosis at this point,” the spokesperson said in a statement.

"We are working in cooperation with City, State and Federal health officials. There is no further information available at this time.”

President Barack Obama had been due to attend a trip to Connecticut just hours before, but cancelled the event in order to meet with his advisors in the White House.

Mr Obama's meeting is to discuss the Ebola crisis after two health care workers contracted Ebola in Texas.

The suspected case in Connecticut comes as Madrid airport officials placed a passenger in isolation who complained of feeling unwell on an Air France flight.

The passenger, who had travelled from Lagos, Nigeria, was taken by ambulance to an unspecified hospital in Madrid and placed in isolation.
