A woman accused of killing and dismembering her adult son has been found guilty by a US jury.

Prosecutors said that Donna Scrivo, 61, drugged and strangled her 32-year-old son Ramsay Scrivo, before dumping his body in a bathtub.

Bags containing his body parts were found a few days later in St Clair County to the northeast of Detroit, they added. One of them contained an electric saw.

Surveillance footage showed that Scrivo was in the area around the time the bags were reported and additional CCTV video captured her purchasing a circular saw.

Scivo, a registered nurse, has always denied the killing, telling the jury that she found an armed man in her son’s room who made her carry his remains out of their home, according to CBS News.

“I’m not mother of the year,” Scivo, who filed a missing persons report for her son last January, told the court. “I have multiple problems.”

“I think I did everything to protect the rest of my family,” she added. “I did everything he told me to do.”

Pointing out that her 16 stone son was over double her weight, her defence lawyer Mark Haddad said she had no motive to kill her son.

But the Macomb County Circuit Court jury found her guilty of first-degree murder and mutilation of a body.
