A who fatally stabbed a dog 11 times in a revenge attack before dumping its remains on the owner's doorstep he been jailed.

Andrew Nipper later messaged the woman on Snapchat that it sounded like she was having a “ruff” day, a court in Cape Girardeau, Missouri heard.

The dog's owner responded to a knock at her door and found her pet's remains in a bin bag on her doorstep of her home in the city.

After he was found guilty of felony animal abuse, stealing the creature and first-degree stalking, Nipper was sentenced to nine years.

The woman told police Mr Nipper and her friend had dated, The Southeast Missourian newspaper reported.

She said she believed the stabbing was in retaliation for calling the police after Mr Nipper stalked her friend.

She added that he also tried to strike her with his vehicle.
