Detectives were called to an address in north Houston, Texas, shortly before 6am on Saturday after a man reported his wife had been attacked by dogs.
Police said the woman was “severely injured” and was taken to hospital for treatment, where she remains in a stable condition.
Minutes later, police received another call from the owner of the dogs who said the animals had attacked another woman nearby, ABC 13 reports.
The victim was found lying dead in a ditch covered in bite marks, according to the news channel.
Police told the channel three pit bull dogs had been contained.
