A suspect has reportedly been arrested in Los Angeles after a disturbance at a vigil for Mexican singer Vicente Fernández.

The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) were seen entering an apartment block above Hollywood Boulevard on Sunday night, amid sounds of a shooting.

A suspect was reportedly arrested in an apartment above the Walk of Fame, which was blocked off by LAPD at the scene. There were no injuries.

As the Daily News reported on Sunday, it was unclear if the shooter was aiming at a small crowd who had gathered around Mr Fernández’s star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame.

Video of the vigil appeared to show mourners singing and listening to Mr Fernández’s music before four or five shots were heard ringing out.

A number of vigil attendees and camera crews attending the vigil were seen hiding behind a car, while another video showed a smashed window.

Witnesses meanwhile described seeing a man shooting from a window around the 6100 block of Hollywood Boulevard, east of Vine Street.

The vigil for Mr Fernández was held following his death aged 81, news of which which saddened fans of traditional Mexican music all around the world.

His hits included songs “El Rey” and “Lástima que seas ajena”, and the singer was known for his sombrero and elegant mariachi suits, as The Associated Press reported.

The LAPD confirmed to CBS Los Angeles that a man was taken into custody, who remains unidentified.
