Florida shooting: Two dead and more than 20 injured outside club in Hialeah
Florida police chief calls shooting a ‘cowardly act of gun violence’
Two people were killed and more than 20 injured after multiple gunmen opened fire on a crowd outside a club on Sunday morning in south Florida.
The shooting occurred in Hialeah, south of Miami. Miami-Dade police director Alfredo ‘Freddy’ Ramirez III called the shooting a “cowardly act of gun violence”.
“These are cold blooded murderers that shot indiscriminately into a crowd and we will seek justice. My deepest condolences to the family of the victims,” he added in a tweet.
Mr Ramirez said three people stepped out of a white SUV near the El Mula Banquet Hall between midnight and 1am, armed with assault rifles and handguns, and began firing into the crowd.
Two died on the scene, and between 20 and 25 were wounded. One of them is in critical condition, police said.
“This type of gun violence has to stop,” Mr Ramirez told the Miami Herald. “Every weekend it is the same thing. This is targeted, this is definitely not random.”
El Mula, a billiards club, had been hosting an album release party featuring live music on Saturday night, which is why such a large crowd was there when the SUV pulled up.
Police say the vehicle was a white Nissan Pathfinder, and ask that anyone with information on the shooters or there whereabouts contact the Miami-Dade Police Department.
