Three law enforcement officers have been shot near Chicago police station

Shooting is believed to have place near to station at W. Monterery Avenue in Chicago’s 22nd district and a press conference is expected later today

Three law enforcement officers have been shot early on Wednesday morning in Southwest side of Chicago, according to an official.

One of the officers was admitted to the Advocate Christ Medical Center for a treatment of a graze wound, according to the city’s fire department.

The exact details of the whereabouts or the time it took place were not given. However, at 6.30 am, the scene was referred to as “fresh” and the representative said it had taken place near to the police station. The station is at 1900 W. Monterey Avenue.

Troopers were brought in to help with the investigation at approximately 6.03 am, according to a trooper with the Chicago District.

“Normally, we’d handle shootings on the expressway, so we’re deciding who’s going to lead the investigation,” he told The Chicago Tribune giving detail about he did not know the precise area of the incident. “It’s possible it was on the ramp of to 119th (Street).”

He also said that authorities were on the look out for a white Chevrolet Impala, which they believe the suspect was driving. According to ABC7, this has been recovered by authorities. It was located on 207 E. 89th Place, however the suspects still remain at large.

The victims are one officer from the Chicago Police department and two agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco Firearms and Explosives.

Two representatives from the Chicago police department were unable to give any information about the incident, however a representative from the force later confirmed that Superintendent David Brown was going to Christ Medical Center to give more information at a press conference later today.

Mr Brown spoke at the hospital at around 7 am. He gave an update, saying one of the ATF officers had been shot in the hand while the other was shot in the torso. The police officer was believed to had his bullet graze his head. Their condition has been described as stable and their injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

It is the 36th police officer from the Chicago Police Department to be shot this year, according to Mr Brown.

No information was given about the case the three officers were working on but it was confirmed that they were working undercover.

It was also confirmed that the block near the police station will be closed due to the ongoing investigation
