Police are searching for suspects in shooting at a California nightclub that left at least seven people wounded.

The shooting, which reportedly took place after early Monday morning, happened within and outside a The Purge themed Halloween party at Sevilla Nightclub in Riverside.

The Riverside Police Department (RPD) said the incident should not be described as a "mass shooting." The department's Gang Unit is conducting an attempted murder investigation into the shooting. The authorities are reviewing surveillance camera footage to identify the suspects involved in the shooting.

The authorities believe the shooting began after an altercation inside the nightclub.

RPD Officer Ryan Railsback said several people were involved in a fight inside a gunfire before an exchange of gunfire.

At the crime scene, authorities found two victims with gunshot wounds and took them to the hospital for treatment.

Five other club goers went to the hospital to treat “gunshot injuries.” The police said none of the injuries were life-threatening.
