Brooklyn vigil for shot boy, 16, turns violent

More unrest is feared after a Monday night vigil for a teenager shot dead by police in Brooklyn erupted into violence.

The trouble began after about 100 residents began a protest march from the site in East Flatbush where 16-year-old Kimani Gray was shot by two police officers on Saturday night. A group of marchers began overturning fruit stands, grabbing rubbish bins and hurling whatever they had at hand at a police station.

According to the NYPD, Kimani was shot by officers after he reached into his waistband allegedly to retrieve a handgun. A revolver was found at the scene, although the teenager’s family has insisted that he could not have been carrying a weapon.
