Your support makes all the difference.Almost three weeks after the elder of the two brothers suspected in the Boston Marathon bombing was killed in a police chase his body was finally interred tonight, officials said. Requests to several cemeteries to take Tamerlan Tsarnaev’s remains had been turned down.
The body of the ethnic Chechen from southern Russia was released by state investigators on 1 May and, with the approval of an uncle living in Maryland, had been moved a week ago to a funeral home in Worcester, west of Boston. After the refusals to accept the body for burial, Worcester police chief Gary Gemme said: “We are not barbarians, we bury the dead.”
Overnight, someone responded. “As a result of our appeal for help, a courageous and compassionate individual came forward to provide assistance to bury the deceased,” Worcester police said in a statement. According to one report, the burial occurred outside Massachusetts.
Today hearings began on Capitol Hill into the bombings, with members of Congress trying to establish whether the FBI and the CIA failed to heed warnings from Russia about the Tsarnaev family.
