Baltimore police have categorically denied that police shot anyone, saying that officers arrested a man with a gun.
Earlier, a reporter from Fox News in Baltimore claimed that a black man was running from police at the intersection of North and Pennsylvania avenues when he was shot by officers. Later reports claimed that the man had dropped a gun that fired and hit him.
Police on the scene said that there was no officer-involved shooting and there “was no shooting victim”.
A reporter from the Baltimore Sun tweeted that officers said that the suspect pulled out a gun that went off. The man reportedly. was arrested and taken to the hospital
The conflicting reports are testing the wounds that remain in Baltimore after they were revealed last month when 25-year-old Freddie Gray was killed while in police custody. His death set off protests that devolved into riots last week.
On Friday, state Prosecutor Marilyn Mosby charged all six officers involved in Mr Gray’s arrest, including one officer who was charged with second-degree murder.
Charging the officers eased tensions in the city, but if police were involved in a shooting Monday they could again boil over. This is very much a developing story. More to follow.
