Two babies have been found dead and wrapped in brown paper on a patio in New York City, reports say.

According to reports, police have said the two newborn infants were found on a patio outside a building in the Bronx by a  superintendent.

They were said to have been pronounced dead a short time later and officials reportedly said that their deaths appear to be suspicious.

The discovery was reported on College Avenue around 1.45pm on Monday, WABC said.

According to WNBC, it is not as of yet clear who left them there or how they may have died.

Officers are currently looking for security video in the area in an attempt to find out who left the babies.

As of mid-afternoon on Monday, officials said they had no information on who the parents might be, the outlet reported.

No other details have been released.
