The footage shows a child in what appears to be a store in the US holding a pack of sanitary pads.
Looking at his mother inquisitively, he asks: "Don't you use these for your butt?"
She seems confused, prompting her son to explain that he has seen her using them in the past.
"So you still want a pack of them?", he asks, before his mother snaps and tell him to "put it back".
Thousands of people have viewed the video on YouTube.
Tampons and sanitary towels are subject to a 5% tax in the UK, where they are classed as "non-essential, luxury" items.
The tax remains despite an ongoing campaign to end it, with around 250,000 people having signed a petition demanding its removal.
While the so-called 'tampon tax' exists in some US states - including California and New York - Canada abolished its levy on sanitary products in May.
