From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Disgraced Democrat congressman Weiner has been filmed angrily arguing with a man in a New York bakery. Weiner was visiting the Brooklyn bakery as part of his campaign trail when he was heckled by a member of the public.
The man said: 'You're a real scumbag Anthony,' before adding that Weiner is 'married to an Arab.' Weiner's wife Huma Abedin is Saudi Arabian, and is a political aide to Hilary Clinton.
Weiner responds to the heckler by saying: 'Yeah, it takes one to know one, jackass,' through a mouthful of pastry.
The man also told Weiner that he needed to 'sort out his problems and stay out of the public light,' jabbing his finger at him.
However, Weiner gives as good as he gets by telling the heckler not to judge him and suggesting the man should visit his rabbi before passing judgement on others.
Weiner later responded to the incident on Twitter saying: 'if by meltdown you mean stood up to a heckler. Yep. Did that. That's what mayors have to do sometimes.'
Weiner resigned from office back in 2011 after he used Twitter to send sexually sugestive images of himself to a woman. It later emerged that Weiner had sent other sexually explicit images and messages to other women.
The incident now known as 'Weinergate' was not the last sexual scandal to rock Weiner, only in July further images and sexts of him were published online.
The video from the New York bakery was released by Weiner's office, who felt that the footage sheds a more positive light on the congressman. In May Weiner announced on YouTube his intention to run for New York Mayor and is hoping to win political favour with the people after such high profile scandals.
