"The suspect has been shot by [Amarillo Police Department] SWAT and has died. Hostages inside are safe," the Randall County Sheriff's Office said in a statement.
Police earlier described the situation as a "work-place violence type event" in a statement.
The Randall County Sheriff's Office has confirmed that at least one hostage had been taken by the suspect. While shots were reported, there are still no confirmed injuries.
State and local agencies are on the scene, including SWAT and Department of Public Safety personnel.
Reports of the shooting come days after the US experienced its worse mass shooting in history, after a gunman opened fire inside of the Pulse LGBT nightclub in Orlando, Florida, early Sunday morning, killing 49 people and wounding 53.
