Alexis Sharkey, an Instagram influencer, has been found dead after going missing on Friday, her family has confirmed.

In a statement shared to Facebook Sunday night, Sharkey’s mother Stacy Robinault wrote: “It’s with deeply broken hearts that Mike and I want to let you all know that Lexi’s body has been found. We cannot begin to thank you all for your love and the kind words you’ve extended to our family!

“Please give us this time to grieve this incredible loss to our family and this world!!! We will miss you, Love!!!!”

Sharkey,  who lived in Houston, Texas, went missing Friday evening, according to her mother, who told ABC13 prior to the 26-year-old’s death that she had not seen or heard from her daughter since just before Thanksgiving on Thursday.

“(Thanksgiving) was a busy day on her end and our end and so it was just one of those passing, type of 'Love you' things," Robinault told the outlet. "Then Friday ... honestly, Friday got away. (It was a) busy day. We never talked, and then she went missing Friday night and I have not seen her or heard from her since."

According to Robinault, she learned her daughter was missing on Saturday from her husband Tom Sharkey, at which point she said she went into “full panic mode”.

In addition to contacting police, Robinault also shared a plea for information on Facebook, where she shared photos of her daughter and wrote: “Please share this post!!! My daughter, Alexis Sharkey, is missing!! No one has heard from her for over 24 hours and the police are involved. She has lived in Houston, Texas, since January and that was where she was last seen. Please help us find her and bring her home safely!! We are so very desperate!!! Please share!!”

On Instagram, Sharkey’s husband thanked followers for their help while condemning others who said negative things about his wife’s disappearance.

He also said he had been “assisting the deputies and making phone calls to find out what happened to my wife”.

According to ABC13, police confirmed a female body found on the side of the road Saturday in Houston belonged to Sharkey, with a cause of death currently unknown. The Independent has contacted the Houston Police Department for comment.

Prior to her death, Sharkey was well-known on Instagram, where she described herself as a “mentor” and had more than 22,000 followers.

In her last post, shared 22 November, the 26-year-old shared her desire to move to Tulum, Mexico.
