From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Yoga is supposed to be about alleviating stress. But for two New Yorkers a class over the weekend had quite the opposite effect.

Instructor Hilaria Thomas, wife of actor Alec Baldwin, is being sued after a participant at her Manhattan yoga session claimed he was left emotionally and physically injured following an accident in her class.

The victim, Spencer Wolfe, a 32-year-old Yale PhD candidate and a Huffington Post blogger, claimed to have severely cut his foot after Ms Thomas allegedly instructed him to do a handstand against a wall and his foot went through a window.

The lawsuit filed in Manhattan Supreme Court stated the injury at the Yoga Vida centre was the result of Ms Thomas directing him “to perform a dangerous activity at a wall”.

Ms Thomas, 28, who has taught at Yoga Vida since 2005, has just announced she is pregnant. She is Mr Baldwin’s second wife. He was previously married to actress Kim Bassinger.
