US professor charged with genocide denial

A Rwandan judge has charged a US law professor with denying the country's 1994 genocide.

Peter Erlinder, a professor at William Mitchell College in the United States, faces up to 25 years in jail if found guilty. Erlinder was visiting Rwanda to advise an opposition political leader, Victoire Ingabire, also charged with genocide denial offences by the government. This week, Rwandan police reported that Erlinder had attempted suicide while being held.
