Your support makes all the difference.Thousands of men threw themselves into a river in an hour-long hand-fishing frenzy at the Argungu festival in north-west Nigeria. The event marks a visit in 1934 by the Sultan of Sokoto, who came to celebrate peace between his Fulani tribe and the Kabawa of Argungu.
The contest was the high point of a four-day festival that also featured wild duck-catching and blindfolded swimming. An "elephant fish" was the biggest catch of this year's competition and the man who wrestled the 65kg (143.3lb) monster to shore with his bare hands won around £17,000. BBC's Blue Peter filmed the event.
