From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Reuters has released a set of images from around the world which recap a host of significant events from 2015.

The slideshow, made up of 95 pictures, is dominated by images of the refugee crisis and the conflict zones of Iraq and Syria. These two events look to continue well into 2016.

There are moving pictures from the Nepal earthquake which took place on 25 April. Measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale and killing over 9,000 people, it was the worst natural disaster to hit region since the 1934 Nepal-Bihar earthquake.

The collection of pictures also shows the horrifying scenes of November’s terror attacks in Paris. 130 people lost their lives in France’s worst-ever terror attack.

Cultural events like Coney Island’s Mermaid Parade feature in the slideshow; alongside sporting moments such as Luis Suarez’s iconic goal against Paris-Saint Germain in the Champions League.
