From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Reporter Ria Chatterjee was reporting from outside St Pancras Station in London on ongoing transport chaos caused by a lorry fire that closed the Channel Tunnel on Saturday.
As she described the problems to camera, in the background the moped slid into the pedestrian who fell to the ground with a cry of pain that could be clearly heard by viewers.
However the man, who was wheeling a suitcase behind him, then got up and carried on his way towards the station.
And Ms Chatterjee later tweeted: “The pedestrian and motorcyclist who collided during my live broadcast at St Pancras Station are both fine.”
It was not clear whether she was aware of the accident as she presented her report but Twitter users noted her dedication to the task.
Ryan Stanley said: “Love how a pedestrian got knocked over by a moped live on ITV News and the presenter carries on like she hasn't heard anything lol!
