Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Behold Jiff: the fastest dog on the planet on two legs.

This cute pooch has nabbed himself a spot in this year's edition of the Guinness Book of World Records, after running 10 metres on his hind legs in 6.56 seconds and completing a five-metre sprint on his front paws in under eight seconds.

He had to complete both runs in less than 10 seconds to qualify for the Guinness World Record and managed to do both on his first attempt.

According to his owners, Jiff practices every day to hone his craft.

The Pomeranian has been sharing his talents on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in Los Angeles and around Beverley Hills to the delight of many.

But that’s not all, the oh-so-cool canine has a number of other talents, including skateboarding, bowing and shaking hands.

The Chicago native moved from the Windy City last year to pursue an acting and modelling career in LA and he hasn’t looked back since.

The cuddly puppy has starred in a number of videos and adverts, most famously with Katy Perry in her music video for Dark Horse.

He has also built up a large online fanbase, with 1.3 million likes on Facebook and over 14,000 followers on Twitter, but he’s never too busy to stamp an autograph for his admirers.

Jiff has attained a level fame that some of us can only dream of, so much so that last week he was honoured by the Los Angeles City Council, who declared 20 August 2014 as Jiff Day in the city.

His owners have decided to remain anonymous though, so that Jiff can have some privacy and won’t be hounded by the press.

The 60th anniversary edition of the Guinness Book of World Records will be available from 10 September.
