From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

After being declared bankrupt, Sabina Carter, 50, became embroiled in a legal battle with other residents who claimed she owed £11,000 in unpaid service charges at Westwood House, a 12-flat mansion near Droitwich in Worcestershire.
The row escalated after she sent an abusive email to the residents' committee chairwoman, Janice Brookes, 48, littered with sexual remarks and foul language on 13 November last year, court heard.
Carter wrote: "My only suggestion is that you go and hang yourself but with your own low IQ you couldn't manage that."
Prosecutor Jackie Rogers said Carter struggled to get on with neighbours and had previously been given a harassment warning ordering her to stay away from Brookes.
Brookes, who was made chairwoman of the committee in 2012, told the court she found the email "distressing and disgusting".
The mother of two pleaded guilty to sending an email that was offensive or of an indecent, obscene or menacing character at Worcester Magistrates' Court on Wednesday.
Her lawyer, Paul Nicholls, said she had been "under strain" when she sent the email as she struggled to keep on top of her bills, which came around £4,000 a year including £2,000 council tax and a £120-a-month service charge. Nicholls said she was being evicted for defaulting on her mortgage repayments.
He said: "It was not a nice email. She wrote it as 15-year old rather than a 50-year old."
Carter was given a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay a £350 fine. The former Lufthansa air hostess bought the two-bedroom apartment for £237,000 in 1999 and spent thousands of pounds into restoring the property, which boasts a 24-ft high Elizabethan salon.
