The former Manchester City captain will not take part in the charity match at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday.
The Belgian suffered from numerous injuries in the latter part of his career and despite transitioning to a manager with his player-coach role with Anderlecht, the 33-year-old has picked up a knock to rule him out.
After limping off in Anderlecht's victory over Genk, Kompany's body has betrayed him once again, with the irony not lost on the 33-year-old.
"It’s typical of me, I’ve got a slight hamstring injury so I couldn’t risk it tonight but there’s a low of awesome players," Kompany said.
"Unfortunately I can't start or even play. I have a slight hamstring injury and can't risk it. It's typical me.
"It’s a celebration to say goodbye and I don’t have to be on the pitch. It’s for an unbelievable cause."
