Thousands of people around the world took part in a wide variety of record attempts for the ninth annual Guinness World Record Day.

The most categories are covered by the the book's editor, Craig Glenday to make the iconic book special.

Mr Glenday said: “Guinness World Records Day is a celebration of record-breaking. All around the world no matter where you are from, or what you do, you too can use your imagination and become a Guinness World Record holder. Its loads of fun and maybe you can get your name in next year's book!”

Most Hula Hoops Spun Simultaneously? Yes, broken in the UK, by the ‘Marawa's Majorettes’ dance group, spun 264 hula hoops between them. Largest Gathering of People Dressed as Penguins? Again, broken in the UK by 325 people dressed up. Most Swords Swallowed Underwater: this time Australia wins a space in the iconic book. USA took home the recognition of Largest Collection of Pizza Boxes, as Scott Wiener had 595 boxes.

Other categories include Longest basketball shot, Longest wooden carving, Fastest 100m running on all fours, Most darts caught by one hand in one minute, Largest Gathering of People Dressed as Ninjas and Most upright bottles walked across.

The event was organised by the children’s hospice, Richard House.
